Since joining HML in 1993, Mr. Farrand has performed and supervised appraisal projects covering a wide range of industries. Areas of focus include gift and estate tax appraisals, appraisals of loss of business goodwill in eminent domain matters, and valuations of companies owned by employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs). Mr. Farrand has testified in California Superior Court, as well as mediation and arbitration matters. Mr. Farrand has provided testimony in numerous cases and in settlement hearings with the Internal Revenue Service. Specific to the topic of ESOPs, Mr. Farrand has served on the Steering Committee of the California/Western States Chapter of The ESOP Association since 2011 and is a member of the National Center for Employee Ownership.

Mr. Farrand earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (emphasis in economics) and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree (emphasis in finance) from Southern Methodist University. He earned a Master in Business Administration degree from Pepperdine University. Mr. Farrand is an Accredited Senior Appraiser of the American Society of Appraisers, Business Valuation discipline.

Mr. Farrand has been a guest lecturer on the subject of business valuation at Pepperdine University and the University of California at Los Angeles. Prior to joining HML, Mr. Farrand worked as a financial analyst and loan officer in the commercial banking industry.
